Mr. M.M. (Marleen) van Essen graduated from the VU University (in Amsterdam) in September 2011. Marleen successfully completed her Master’s degree programme in Law, specialising in Private Law and International and European Law, with extensive research on hedonic damages. Marleen has followed up this research with various publications in her name.

Before studying Law, Marleen studied Management, Economy and Law. Because of this, Marleen is able to supplement her legal knowledge with a knowledge of all of the various important economic and organisational aspects of entrepreneurship and business operations.

Marleen has held various legal-service positions both during and after completing her study. After completing her studies, Marleen also completed internships with various law firms. This enabled her to gain further knowledge and work experience in a number of different areas of law (including the general law of obligations, employment law, contract law, landlord and tenant law, insolvency law, intellectual property law, business law and property law).
Marleen also works as a volunteer for the Dutch Section of the International Commission of Jurists (Nederlands Juristen Comité voor de Mensenrechten) and the legal advice centre for Woerden and the surrounding area (Rechtswinkel Woerden en omstreken).
